Lest We Forget

Remembrance Sunday is the Sunday closest to Remembrance Day which is observed on 11th November to recall the end of the First World War which formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" of 1918.

Remembrance Sunday falls on the same date and time of our planned 'Polar' swim so we will be taking this opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedom and protected our way of life. We will remember the Armed forces, and their families, the vital role played by emergency services and all those that have lost their lives as a result of conflict or terrorism.

Cold Water Swimming. The Do's...

  • Acclimatise gradually. Enter the water slowly trying to stay relaxed. Allow your breathing to regulate before setting off.
  • Compulsory kit: Bright coloured swim caps, towfloats
  • Recommended - Wear earplugs which prevent cold water entering your ear canal potentially causing dizziness and nausea.
  • Have lots of layers ready for when you get out of the water in the order you will be putting them back on (quickly :)

The Don'ts....

  • Swim if you are feeling unwell, have been drinking alcohol the night before or are suffering from any respiratory illness.
  • Forget your inhaler if you have asthma.
  • Dive or jump into the water (its too shallow in parts and, as temperatures drop, your breathing could be affected)
