As a Iifelong open water swimmer I dreamt up Uswim in the late '90's to meet the demands for safe open water swimming and we're now one of the UK's leading, longest established specialists. It had a different name at the time - fishheads - when i first stood on the side of a lake with a clipboard counting off the ten or so triathletes i was coaching at the time.
The concept of creating a 'one stop shop' for the open water community, however, stays the same today as it did then.
Early Days
My dream was always to swim the English Channel and, during my training to attempt this in the 1990's, there were no open training venues for me to train at so I had to travel to lakes and reservoirs around the North West, to mainly swim alone. After years of this, I decided I wanted to create a local swim place where water safety and measured courses were provided. 25 years later we're still here doing our bit to popularise our beautifiul sport. This is our story. Dave Quartermain
