The timing chips were handed out. The Uswim caps were pulled on tight, goggles adjusted and over 140 swimmers nervously trod water waiting for the starting horn! On a fabulous day of racing in Dock 9, Salford, we had a record turnout of swimmers competing in either 1.5, 3.8 or 5km distances ready to race or just to successfully complete their latest swim challenges.
The mass start was totally exciting for the spectators with wet-suited and skins swimmers surging towards Detroit Bridge and jockeying for pole position on lap one. After lots of anticipation, excitement, sweat and tears people began to progress over the finish line and stagger over the race timing mat exhilarated and exhausted in equal measure.
Huge thank you to our supersonic water safety team and land crew who make these events happen. Not to mention Cannonball Events for their accurate timing system with equally exciting live updates.
