K and Q recently returned from a brilliant swim experience in Poros, Greece which was hosted by local boff Spiros of Medwave Swim. Apart from the usual pre-Season dose of sun, sand and salt the aim was to check out this lovely Island as a venue for a Uswim Adventure endurance training camp in March 2018.
Well... we are always looking for stunning places to swim and Poros didn't disappoint. Its a chilled, friendly place, dripping with ancient history and an hour from Athens. Throw in some great beaches leading into warm (16c) crystal clear seas and you have swimmer heaven.
We stayed at the Odyssey Apartments on Askeli Beach with hosts Katerina and Rick providing fab food, accommodation and excellent company. In danger of piling on the pounds due to the top nosh we swam twice a day in the water traffic free bay checking out the octopuses and shoals of fish beneath us as we swam around places with names like the Russian Naval Base, Love Bay and Castle Island.
Highly recommended for aquanauts desperate for a sunny break to recharge and aiming to get some big training miles in without risking Northern European hypothermia.
To paraphrase Arnie "We'll be back!".
