We are proud of the culture of individuals and teams who, when taking part in our events, support charities and good cause’s that are close to their hearts. Uswim is committed to supporting many charities through our events. As a result we are delighted to say that £thousands are raised from our events each year.
You can enter any event you wish to and fund raise for any charity that you choose. However, we are also committed to supporting some specific charities at different events in 2016.
2014 New Years Uswim
At our tradition charity swim in the Quays we had over 100 swimmers start the year with a splash and in the process raise £2000 for the Tameside Children’s Unit. On the back of our donation Medical Aid also contributed another £15,000 which helped purchase much needed children’s medical equipment at the Unit. Definitely worth the fantastic 'thank you' card that the talented children and staff made for us!
2015 New Years Uswim
This year over 160 swimmers launched into Salford Quays and braved the freezing cold to raise £1,760 to our nominated charity JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund http://www.jdrf.org.uk/) which is the type 1 diabetes charity improving lives until they find the cure.
To spread some festive goodwill and cheer to people less fortunate than ourselves we asked swimmers to contribute any non-perishable food to the Foodbank at the Well Farnworth Baptist Church, Farnworth. Participants, many of whom wore ‘hilarious hats’, swam around a 200m swim course overseen by a safety crew of kayakers and a safety boat.
